I am a fan of the Kat Von D line from SEPHORA. I am not a fan of tattoos per se, but her work is beyond compare. As a makeup line, it is also pretty darn good. I like the liquid foundation, lipsticks, pigments, awesome blushes and the small eye shadow palettes. So when I saw this eye shadow palette, I knew I just had to get my paws on it. There are 24 eye shadows. Yummy! I am going to show you some looks and try and convince you to come over to the dark side…What I really like is that there is such a good assortment of eye shadows in this palette. Something for everyone. The eye shadows are very pigmented, creamy and soft. There is very little to no fallout and they don’t crease. The shades are variations such as iridescents, shifters, metallics, mattes and satins.
Swatches:
Bascially all of the colors swatched well. I only had trouble with a couple of the lightest shades and even those ended up showing up okay in the photographs. The matte shades catch a little with the brushes but they do go o fairly well. I think the shimmers and iridescents are amazing.
First two rows: dark throne (matte black), precious (shimmering peach), babe (iridescent purple), piaf (shimmery gunmetal), sunset blvd (shimmery bright gold), 8 bit (shimmery turquoise), geek (matte peach), fallen (shimmery bronze).
Second two rows: holy bible (satin cloud blue), oddfellow (matte black with blue glitter), birdcage (shimmery lime green), gunner (iridescent green with blue glitter), intsaglam (shimmery pink), stupid autocorrect (shimmery berry with pink shift), galore (shimmery golden peach), hexagram (shimmery olive).
Last two rows: smile now (matte peach with gold shift), cry later (chocolate brown with gold glitter), arcadia (shimmery lavender), wonderland (iridescent eggplant), queen (iridescent olive with red shift), bukowski (super bright blue shimmer), countess (matte lightest flesh tone), WTF (matte red).
Look 1:
I used queen in the crease, wonderland in the outer corner of the lid and under the eye to line. I also used it in the crease to deepen it make the eye stand out. Then babe on the lid and arcadia under the brow. I used NARS Paint in Tatar to line upper lid and then used babe on top of it to bring out the purple. For mascara I used MAC’s Studiofix Bold Black Lash. On my cheeks I used Kat Von D Everlasting Face Shaper Blush in bellisima (peach pink). On my lips I used NARS Honolulu Honey. This look was meant to really bring out the green in my eyes.
Look 2:
For this look, I went really dark and smoky. It is reminiscent of a NARS look I think. I used the following eye shadows: piaf in the crease, then oddfellow on the outer edge of the lid an under the eye to line, and used it in the crease to deepen it. I took bukowski and used it on the lid and blended it up into the crease, I also lined under the eye with it just a little. I took holy bible and placed it under the brow and then took just a tiny bit of it and used it in the center of the lid and blended it in. I lined the upper lid with Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner in Intense Black. For mascara I used MAC’s Studiofix Bold Black Lash. On my lips I used the new Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Balm in Ingenue (love this!!!).
This palette is definitely worth the money. The shades go on well, have great staying power and are awesome. I think the different variety of shades in this palette makes it a great gift for the makeup junkie in your life, if that is you or someone you know. Kat Von D knows how to come up with some beautiful colors. Compared to other eye shadow palettes available, this is definitely an A. It is The Stuff You Need…
Kat Von D Spellbinding Eye Shadow Book is $55.00 and is available from www.sephora.com or SEPHORA stores.
I try to stick to heavily pigmented eye shadows, would you say this is one?
