The Aloe Source is a company that offers products based on Aloe Vera, a botanical that has been known for thousands of years as a healing agent for skin. Aloe has been known to be used since 2200 B.C., when the Egyptians depicted it on their temple walls. They used it to cure diseases and for restorative health. Ancient Greek scientists called it “the plant of immortality”. The use of aloe in cosmetics dates back to Cleopatra. In recent years it has been used for its emollient and healing effects. Its restorative and emollient properties have been known to counteract the effects of the environment on the skin. It is also known as the burn plant, used to help heal burns on the skin. I tried out 5 of the products they offer and I am going to go over how they perform.
Botanical Cleansing Milk $28.00 6.7 fl. oz. / 200 mL
The creamy, milky cleanser is sulfate free and helps to dissolve makeup, grime and dirt to gently cleanse the face. It does not strip the skin of its natural moisture barrier. It contains soothing allantoin, bisabolol and aloe vera to help maintain and promote smooth, healthy-looking skin. The cleanser also has Vitamin C and licorice extract to help brighten the complexion and improve skin tone. It is also paraben-free.
I really, really like this cleanser. And I don’t usually like milky cleansers. I am more of a gel cleanser kind of person. But I found this cleanser to be exceptionally good at cleansing the face of makeup and leaving my skin (which is normal/combination), to feel clean and fresh. It left no traces of makeup and it didn’t leave any cleanser “grime” on my face either. I love that! I didn’t break out from this too, which is refreshing. I think this is a great cleanser for anyone except those with really oily complexions. The Aloe Source offers a great Clarifying Cleanser for oily/acneic complexions instead. I consider this a must have from the line!
Botanical Toner $26 6.7 fl. oz. / 200 mL
I don’t normally use toner that much. I find that if I am using a good cleanser, I don’t need one. Sometimes though, I will use one after a peel to bring my skin back to a normal pH value and sometimes I like my skin to feel refreshed. Toners are supposed to balance the pH level of the skin and this toner does a good job of it. It also has aloe vera, arnica, willowherb and chamomile extracts to soothe and replenish skin, leaving it smooth and very refreshed. I found that I could use this after peels and my skin felt amazing. If you love the idea of a toner, this is a good one. It is full of botanicals that will soothe the skin. Even if you don’t ever use a toner and are thinking of trying one, this is the one to get. It is so soothing to the skin and really does a good job of balancing out the pH level.
Youth Renew Serum $54 1 fl. oz. / 29 mL
The two things that are really hot in skin care right now are serums and oils. Everyone should have a good serum in their arsenal. This is a good serum to have around. It is an intense treatment serum that contains a a multitude of peptides, aloe vera, red rice stem cells and date seed kernel extract to reduce that help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve overall skin texture. The peptide complex boosts the skin’s own production of collagen to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, increase elasticity and help increase firmness. Stem cells (derives from Himalayan red rice) rejuvenate, firm and smooth the appearance of aging skin for a youthful look. Stabilized aloe vera juice, which is rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes- combines with date seed kernel extract can nourish and protect skin from environmental damage. The serum is very light and absorbs instantly into skin. Only a tiny amount is needed. After using this for a few weeks my skin definitely feels more firm and looks better. I even use this around the eye area it is so light! I recommend this product for all skin types, as it is so light in texture. And, I consider this a must have from the line!
Youth Renew Moisturizer $50 1.7 fl. oz. / 46 mL
If you are in need of a moisturizer in addition to a serum, this moisturizer is chock full of peptides, aloe vera, DMAE and alpha-lipoic acid. Hyaluronic acid helps to draw moisture into the skin, while squalane moisturizes and panthenol soothes it. A polysaccharide complex gives skin a smoothing and lifting effect, the peptides help to improve elasticity and tone. It has the same complex of stem cells, peptides and aloe vera juice that is in the serum mentioned earlier. This moisturizer is light and sinks right into the skin. It is good for combination, normal and drier skins but oilier skins would benefit from a lighter moisturizer such as the O2 Infusion Moisturizer. The Youth Renew Moisturizer is great for those who are looking for a moisturizer to fight the signs of aging.
Lip Therapy $8 0.15 oz. / 4.3 g
An extremely moisturizing and nourishing lip balm (treatment) that hydrates comforts and protects the lips. It contains natural waxes, such as beeswax, and coconut oil that cushion the lips and make them feel soft again. This lip treatment provides a protective barrier to the lips. Stabilized aloe vera and allantoin nourish and soothe. I personally love this lip balm/treatment. It leaves my lips feeling soft, smooth and protected. I feel as if I don’t need to use lip balm as much because it stays on, which is a huge plus for me.
So, from what I was able to try out, I did like the products very much. These are excellent products and I am happily surprised that they performed so well.
