Inspiration: The CG F/W 14 Collection captured a feeling of 50's/60's nostalgia (inspired heavily by Stanley Kubrick films) with a modern approach. Makeup Artist Daniel Martin for NYX Cosmetics wanted to create a beauty look that paid homage to the time period, but in a current and contemporary way. With Elizabeth Taylor in Butterfield 8 as the muse, the skin projected a matte glow, with strong brows as the prominent feature of the face. Muted cheeks and lips completed the clean, contemporary look.
Face: Martin began by applying NYX Invincible Fullest Coverage Foundation over the entire face in a shade lighter than the model’s skin to create the muted, clean look. Next, he color-corrected and covered any blemishes with NYX Mineral Stick Foundation and then he applied NYX Blotting Powder through the t-zone area to allow the brow and cheekbones to stay luminous. Finally, he used NYX Radiant Finishing Powder in “Brighten” through the highest points of the cheekbones and right under the eyebrow.
Eyes: Strong eyebrows were the prominent feature of this look. To create the shape, Martin used the NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder to accentuate and strengthen the natural shape of the model’s eyebrows. He applied the product using short, hair-like strokes, magnifying the edge closest to the eye, arch and tail end of the brow. Next, he applied the most neutral shades of the NYX The Adorable Shadow Palette to the lids and rimmed them with the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in “Milk” to create a brightening effect. Finally, NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel was used as a mascara on the lashes to set the neutral look.
Lips: Martin finished the look by applying a combination of the NYX Matte Lipstick in “Shy” and NYX Butter Lipstick in “Bit of Honey.”
