I consider myself to be something of a connoisseur when it comes to foundation. Having tried hundreds to find the right: shade, coverage, luminosity, etc., I find myself buying so many that I often wonder if I will ever find the perfect match. Recently I have been trying out numerous brands in the hope that these will be suitable for my skin tone and needs. These certain individual types have come close enough that I am going to share them here so that you may also want to try them out on yourself.
This foundation is a high pigment, full coverage foundation with a high concentration of water. It is breathable and does not look like a mask on the face. There are 14 shades available to purchase online and 6 more shades that are available in the stores. What I like is that it comes in so many shades. BECCA has such a good system for finding the right foundation, depending on your needs. Any skin type can wear this foundation. The formula contains a balance of 21% pigment and 22% water that work in synergy to conceal imperfections, redness, hyperpigmentation, and uneven texture in a weightless cream. To apply, make sure that the face is well hydrated and apply a primer beforehand. It is best applied with a foundation brush. It is free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, alcohol and fragrance. I like the coverage of this and the face that it really stays on all day long. A study found this formula to be water- and transfer-resistant. The shade in the photo is Porcelain, an ivory shade. It works very well for my complexion. It has a slight hint of pink to it but my neutral skin tone can handle that.
Next we have Benefit’s Big Easy Liquid to Powder Foundation SPF 35 1.18 oz/ 35 mL $38.00
This liquid to powder is described as a multibalancing complexion perfector with a SPF 35. It has ingredients that help to balance moisture, control oil and the formula goes from a liquid to a powder in a flash. It melts in a like a cream but finishes off like a velvety powder that self-adjusts to the exact shade to even out your skin tone and conceal imperfections. It also has ingredients to soothe and comfort the skin and help fight off free radicals. It comes in 6 shades. The shade on the right is Fair (01) and works very well for me. It does self adjust to my perfect shade as it ‘melts’ into the skin. I like that it has a sheer to medium coverage. This product is more of a foundation than a BB Cream type product. It wears great and leaves skin looking fresh all day long.
The next two foundations are from Forever 21’s new makeup line. Yes, you heard right. The premium makeup line at Forever 21 is actually quite good. I purchased a few items there and love them all! The foundations are amazing for the price.
Forever 21 Premium Collection Matte Foundation 1.35 fl oz/ 40 mL $14.80
This is a lightweight foundation for normal to oily skin types that has a nice matte finish. It has medium to full coverage. The only down side is that it comes in 3 shades. For me I lucked out because the lightest shade actually matches my skin tone! The matte finish is not too “dull” on the skin but is very nice. It looks soft instead of harsh. It is a very nice product for the price and I think if you can find a match for your skin, and you have normal to oily skin and are looking for a mattifying foundation, then you should pick it up!
Forever 21 Premium Collection Liquid Foundation 1.01 fl. 0z/ 30 mL $14.80
Again, medium coverage foundation that is almost flawless. It too comes in 3 shades that glide onto skin and leave it looking lovely, luminous and supple. The moisturizing formula features vegetable oils with an emollient or soothing affect. For normal-to-dry skin types. This foundation leaves skin looking soft and with a nice glow to it. If you are a match for this, pick it up. The price is good and it wears all day quite well. This is a great product for the price point. Just like the matte version is good for oily skins, this version is good for drier skins.
Shu Uemura the lightbulb Foundation 0.9 fl.oz./27 mL $55.00
This has to be one of my new favorite foundations. I adore it!!!! It may seem gimmicky, but nothing from the legendary shu uemura brand is ever a gimmick. The lightbulb foundation promises to give you a glow and not only a glow but the end all, be all glow of all time. And it does. shu uemura's expertise in oleo technology gives this foundation a multi-glow oil complex and buildable oil complex issue a new way forward for natural glow yet with high coverage. The lightbulb foundation comes with a neat sponge that is reminiscent of the beauty blender but has a special purpose, it is designed and shaped for tapping and creating a glowing finish.
Here is how to use the foundation and sponge: Side A (the wide side) is a glow enhancer. Use a tapping motion to spread the foundation around your t-zone, cheeks and neck. Then use Side B (the pointed side)as a glow controller. Lay the sponge and adjust the glow to control the radiance. The shade finder helps you find your perfect shade from the yellow, neutral or pink shades. There are only 8 shades to choose from, which are not very many but I was able to get a fairly close match. This foundation does leave my face with a very nice glow to it. The sponge takes a little getting use to. I prefer the beautyblender, as it applies foundation better but this is a interesting way to apply it. I do think you can use either and you will get the ‘glow’ either way.
A great way to get coverage, this foundation will cover it all. Has a long-lasting, natural finish. A high pigment load foundation will cover almost any discolorations that need to be covered up. Has a soft matte finish. It comes in 15 shades, which is great for just about anyone. I have the Ivory shade, which is good for my skin tone, The price is very good too!
Lancôme Teint Miracle Lit-From-Within Makeup 1 fl.oz./30 mL $42.50
Of all the newest foundations, this is by far my favorite. Is has shimmer particles in the formula to give a nice glow to the skin. With 31 shades, there is likely to be one for just about anyone. Light is not only reflected on the surface it is also naturally re-emitted from deep within the skin. The coverage is medium to full coverage. It has something called Aura-InsideTM Technology: a new generation of bioptic pigments combined with classic mineral pigments. Together, these pigments reproduce the appearance of inner light of perfect skin, by recreating the intensity and pristine freshness of its radiance. A unique liquid light essence maximizes skin's surface radiance. Wearing this foundation, the skin just glows. It looks so pretty and fresh.
