Recently I received Clairol’s Age Defy Expert Collection Hair Color in 5R Medium Auburn to try out. I have been coloring my own hair since I was 16 years old and I have never been to the salon to actually have my hair colored. So I consider myself somewhat of an expert at coloring my own hair. I was excited to try this color out. The box claims to make the wearer look 10 years younger. That is a lofty claim. This hair color is their most advanced gray coverage available. The Advanced Color System targets resistant grays for 100% gray coverage. It is powered with the breakthrough science of Pantene and it fights the 7 signs of
aging hair. You will discover lustrous, radiant hair. It comes in 12 shades.

Clairol Age Defy Expert Collection Hair Color comes with a special smoothing treatment that is applied prior to coloring. It is a clear gel that you leave on. Then you apply the color and leave it on for 25 minutes. After rinsing hair apply the Pro-V Colorseal™ conditioner to help fight against lackluster color, coarseness, frizz, dryness, breakage and unruly hair. When I rinsed my hair was a little bit darker than I expected. It is Medium Auburn though, which is a reddish brown. The hair color does fade after many washes, which is to be expected with red hair color. The photo on the left shows how rich the color is. At this point in time I do not have any grays to cover up (at least that I don’t know about!) but from other people I have heard that this color does cover them very well. The reviews on the website are all very good for this product too. And, the Clairol website offers step-by-step instructions with a YouTube video (as does the product) on how to color.
I do feel that the color came out very rich and my hair looks shiny and lustrous. The conditioner that came with the kit was great. I left it on my hair for several minutes and it definitely left my hair shiny and soft. My hair did not feel as if it had been colored. I would like this hair color even more if there were more red shades available. There is only one as of this date and I think that is a shame.
