Spring was all about nudes and pinks. And pinky nudes! Well get out your bright lippies because summer is all about bright shades. Neon shades and bleached brights. All of the companies are showing bright colors. Florescent even. Bright eye shadows and lippies are all the rage now. It is funny how fast the colors change from season to season.
If you don’t feel comfortable rocking the bright shades on your lips or eyes or even doing both, try a bold burst of color in one spot, it will let you experiment without feeling like you are overwhelmed. My recommendations are try out just a little bit of bright eye shadow and stick to the nude lip. Or try a completely nude eye and rock the bright day-glo lip, it looks phenomenal with just about any outfit.
Some of my favorite bright products out this season are: Urban Decay’s Electric Pressed Pigment Palette. Ten REALLY bright eye shadows and a great cruelty-free brush that are guaranteed to give you the brightest, most electric eye out there! LORAC’s Alter Ego Lipstick in Flower Child. This bright coral lipstick is creamy and matte (another key look to this season). I love the Alter Ego lipsticks from LORAC. I am also recommending Show Girl, a bright coral red.
The best thing about wearing bright colors is that they make you feel happy and more vibrant. The worst thing is that you can go wrong by doing too much. My advice is not to do too much, just do one thing. Either an eye or a lip but not both.
I have seen that all the brands are focusing their efforts on the “bright” bandwagon, so you will not be able to avoid it this season. I will let you know that some are doing it better than others. NARS summer collection (Adult Swim) is great, it is the best one in years IMO. Maybelline has a pretty summer collection too, Bleached Neons. All very wearable brights. The Urban Decay palette is beautiful but is not as easy to wear as some of the others. But it is a must have! Revlon has a Rio collection that is okay. There are a couple of nice lippies in that collection.
So, to take a few cues from this: wear bright shades on one area only (such as either a the lip or eye) and counter with nude shades on your lips or eyes to not overwhelm the look. This way you can have some fun using the beautiful bright shades that are out now and bring in what you already own. Most important of all is to have fun with it!
Until Next Time~
