Review: Kat Von D Chrysalis and Monarch Eyeshadow Palettes #katvond #eyeshadowpalette

Kat Von D introduces two lovely eye shadow palettes that were inspired by the metamorphosis of butterflies. I love Kat Von D eye shadows. These are some of my favorites. Hers go on smoothly and last all day long. They also have great pigmentation! And these two palettes are fun on a whole new level. Transform your eyes with all of the fun colors! Each palette has three base shades and nine transformative shades for a metamorphosis that will give your eyes a whole new spectrum of fun. There are endless ways to transform the eyes. The palette is decorated with original artwork derived from Kat Von D’s love of butterflies—a symbol of rebirth and renewal. 

Chrysalis Palette $46.00



This palette is a cool toned eye shadow palette the has some extremely beautiful eye shadows. I was able to get two gorgeous and very dramatic looks from this palette. I can definitely see myself using this palette again and again to try out fun looks.



The eye shadows are as follows: (base shades)  Lifelike (matte cream), Lunar Lights (pearl gray), Lucid (sparkle rose). (transformative shades) Hybrid Moments (matte deep purple), Mezzanine (sparkle violet), Transition (pearl mauve), Glasswing (matte caramel), Melancholia (pearl silver), Black Milk (matte gray), Graphic Nature (pearl charcoal), Entombed (pearl blue), Tornay (matte navy).


Look 1: Chrysalis Palette

I took Lifelike and used it as a base all over. Then I used Hybrid Moments in the crease. I took Graphic Nature and used it on the outer 1/3 of the upper lid and to line under the lower lid, then used it in the crease to deepen it. On the upper lid I used Mezzanine and Transition. I lined with a liquid liner from Shu Uemura and used Hypnose mascara from Lancôme. On my lips I did an ombre look with OCC Lip Tars Stained Gloss in Dune and Hedonist.



Look 2:

For this look I also wanted a dramatic look. I took Mezzanine and used it in the crease. Then I took Hybrid Moments and used it on the outer 1/3 of the upper lid, to line the lower lid and to deepen the crease. I used Transition on the rest of the upper lid and a little bit of Melancholia on the upper lid near the lash line. I blended out the brow with Lucid. I lined with a liquid black liner (Shu Uemura) and used Lancôme's Hypnose mascara.




Monarch Palette $46.00



The Monarch Palette is all warm shades that are full of life. It does remind me of a monarch butterfly. I think that this palette would be perfect for anyone who looks splendid in warm shades. I am lucky enough that I can wear both warm and cool tones. I can see myself also using this one again and again. 



The Monarch palette consists of: (base shades) Eye Shadow in Entomology (matte cream), Telepathy (pearl gold), Tiny Death (glitter cream). (transformative shades) Eye Shadow in Wrath (deep pearl orange), Papilio (pearl chocolate), Summerfly (glitter gold), Killing Jar (pearl copper), Delaney (pearl silver), Vanish (matte taupe), Disintegration (pearl brown), Shadow Box (matte chocolate), Deadhead (matte black).
 
 
Look 1: 
 
This look was more about defining the eye than being dramatic. I used Vanish in the crease then used Shadow Box on the outer 1/3 of the upper lid and under the eye. I used a little bit of Deadhead to deepen the crease. For some shimmer I used Killing Jar on the rest of the upper lid. And finally just a pop of Wrath on the outer 1/3 of the lid. I blended out the brow with Entomology. I lined with Marc Jacobs liquid eyeliner and Hypnose Doll Eyes mascara. On my lips I am wearing Chanel Rouge Allure in Gracile.
 

 
Look 2:
 
This look is a little bit more dramatic and brings out the green in my eyes more. Here I used Wrath in the crease and then I used Shadow Box on the outer 1/3 of the upper lid, to deepen the crease and then to line under the eye. On the lid I used Summerfly. Under the brow I used Tiny Death.
 

 

Even though I love warm shades, I think I like the Chrysalis Palette more. It looks better on me. Or rather the purple shades do. I achieved a couple of nice dramatic looks with that palette. The Monarch Palette is nice too, but it is not as complementary on me. Both of these palettes have exceptional eye shadows that are extremely pigmented with little to no fallout. I always were a primer underneath my eye shadows, so they do wear well all day long. They also blend very well. I do think these palettes are worth the full price that is being asked for them. These are great eye shadows that do complement each other and will provide fun, dramatic and inspirational looks for a long time to come. I cannot find one bad thing to say about them!
